Scientists invented LED smart textiles that revolutionized the textile industry

New scarves developed by designers and researchers have revolutionized the textile industry .

The "space cloth" invented by Sonya Reynolds is the first nonwoven made of yarn. This smart textile uses its unique structure to wrap copper wire, LEDs and more. Ms. Reynolds gave this idea to the Advanced Textile Research Group at Nottingham Trent University, which led the further development of the new manufacturing process under the leadership of Professor Tilak Dias and Dr. Amanda Briggs Goode from the School of Art and Design.

The new manufacturing process, known as zephlinear, differs from traditional woven or knitted materials in that it is woven from a new technology, meaning "entanglement of the yarn surface."

Ms. Reynolds said: “This is a breakthrough for the textile industry. This is the first non-woven material made of yarn, and the prospects are promising. The linear passage of the yarn gives it great potential in smart textiles. It is especially suitable for being embedded in microcapsules containing drugs or odors, providing drugs to specific parts of the body or creating antibacterial, aromatic clothes. Due to the distinctive visual effects of the materials, it may be used in other areas such as wall coverings. Because it consumes less labor than traditional fabrics, it is an environmentally friendly production material."

Zephlinear is a combination of two words: zephyr (lightweight fabric) and linear (linear). It is called 'space cloth' because of its appearance and textile properties. The material is being patented and will be on display at the Wearable Technology Show. Studies have shown that the yarns of the new textile are purely natural, such as pure wool, hair, wool/silk.

Dias, a professor at the Advanced Textile Research Group, said: "Zephlinear is developing at an alarming rate with remarkable results. We believe it has great potential in textiles. We have found that it can be combined with electronic textile technology, such as heating textiles or embedding. LED textiles. Its fabrics are light and flexible, and can be retracted back to their original shape after being stretched. We are looking forward to further development of these materials, and we believe that in the future it will provide people with smarter, more environmentally friendly clothing."
